NeenahSilence™ meltblown nonwovens are a great way to reduce external as well as in-vehicle noise and improve comfort in automotive applications. Our nonwovens are made from a variety of polymers and can be customized to provide an optimal foundation for an high airflow resistance layer and an excellent sound absorption performance. This superior acoustic absorption helps to reduce noise levels and create a more comfortable driving experience. 

The meltblown technology is a powerful tool in the production of extremely fine, high-efficiency filter media. The size of a meltblown fiber, with a diameter less than 10µm, is significantly finer than a human hair, which measures 120µm in diameter, or a cellulose fiber at about 50µm. This level of precision gives meltblown media an edge over other filtration materials in sound absorption. Due to the presence of numerous interconnected fine fibers within the nonwoven fabric structure, the probability of sound waves striking a fiber is substantially amplified, thereby strongly enhancing acoustic absorption.

Our meltblown media offers customization options with different polymers to meet specific customer needs. Our machinery is capable of processing a wide range of materials.

In the final step of the production, an additional adhesive, can be applied to scrim. This process simplifies further handling for our customers. In the following converting steps, the meltblown material will be heated and thus the adhesive activated, so that no further additional intermediate steps are necessary before other media layers are applied.

The impeccable purity of both the adhesive and the backing material not only ensures the recyclability of the end product, but also facilitates a seamless reintegration of the materials back into the raw material cycle once the product has reached the end of its lifecycle. This streamlined process promotes resource efficiency and contributes to sustainable manufacturing practices.
