Our lignin-saturated cellulose filter media represents a breakthrough in sustainable filtration technology, offering unmatched performance without compromising environmental responsibility. Designed with a strong commitment to reducing carbon footprints and saving of fossil resources, our lignin saturated media is meticulously engineered to provide high-efficiency filtration that meets the highest standards.
The outstanding properties of cellulose in saturation processes make our eco-friendly cellulose media a perfect solution in a wide range of filtration applications, from transportation to various industrial purposes.
Our lignin filter media is designed to reduce your product carbon footprint. This cellulose filter media is saturated with an eco-friendly lignin-based resin, ensuring that your filter element offers best performance, while taking a step into more sustainable filtration solutions.
Compared to standard media with a fossil-based resin saturation, initial calculations show that the new lignin-based saturation filter media offers an improved product carbon footprint.
Taking an engine air filter media with flame retardant saturation as an example, the product carbon foot print can be reduced by up to 6,6% with the lignin-based saturation.
(Product carbon footprint estimate, cradle-to-gate using primary and secondary data from Sphera MLC 2024)
The crude oil, that is saved by using a lignin modified resin can be up to 100 kg per one ton of filter material.
By adding the eco-friendly lignin saturation we developed a more sustainable product that does not compromise on filtration performance nor on its mechanical properties. Additionally, it decreases the formaldehyde emissions during the curing process.
Our new lignin saturation can be enhanced with flame retardancy, combining safety and sustainability while meeting the most stringent industry standards. With more than 35 years of experience in flame retardancy we are now able to provide a sustainable and safe solution for market demands.
Lignin is a complex organic polymer that serves as a critical structural component of plants, particularly in the cell walls of wood and bark.
It is responsible for providing rigidity, strength, and resistance to decay, enabling plants to stand tall and transport water efficiently through their vascular systems.
As one of the most abundant natural polymers, lignin is a renewable resource with growing applications in various sustainable products and materials.
In its form as a polymer, lignin provides stiffness, strength and rot resistance, making it the perfect, sustainable alternative to phenolic resins in the saturation of cellulose media.
The lignin has no negative influence on the properties of the cellulose media nor on the other properties of the saturation and can therefore directly replace phenolic resins.
Furthermore the lignin adjusted resin formulation achieves the same filtration performance and durability as with phenolic resins.
Lignin is primarily sourced as a by-product in the processing of wood into paper or biofuel.
By critically selecting our suppliers, we can guarantee that no forests are cut down to procure the lignin we use. It is sourced from other industrial processes such as paper production as a by-product and waste product.
Whether in liquid or air filtration, lignin-based filter media can be easily integrated into existing filter systems, regardless of the filter application.
The phenolic resin from conventional saturations can easily be replaced by lignin, as the lignin has no negative impact on the other components of the saturation or the filter medium. All chemical, thermal as well as mechanical properties and functionality of the cellulose filter media, the saturation and also in further processing remain the same.
The lignin-based resin saturation is used in various automotive applications, including engine air intake, oil, and fuel filtration. But the application is not limited to these - any cellulose filter media which is currently using phenolic resins can seamlessly transition to our lignin saturation.
Since the phenolic resin in the saturation of cellulose media is replaced by lignin resin without changing the properties of the medium or its saturation, the application areas remain unchanged.
Any application of a cellulose filter medium, for which a phenolic-based saturation was previously used, can use a lignin-based cellulose filter media.
