Integrated into our saturation toolbox it reduces the product carbon footprint by substituting parts of the fossil-based resin components with bio-based lignin. This primarily affects the upstream material footprint (Scope 3), while energy use, filter media design, and filtration performance remain unchanged. This allows customers to improve sustainability KPIs without changing filter design, performance targets, or manufacturing processes.
Compared to standard media with fossil-based resin saturation initial calculations show that the new lignin-based saturation filter media offers an improved product carbon footprint. Taking an engine air filter media with flame retardant saturation as an example, the product carbon footprint can be reduced by up to 9,3% with the lignin-based saturation.1 The saved crude oil results in a reduction of the product carbon footprint.
