A New Role for PFAS Filtration: Pre‑Filter Integration

|   PFAS Filtration

Traditionally, PFAS removal has been limited to final treatment stages using carbon blocks, resins, or distillation. Despite their structural advantages and large surface area pleated filters were not used in — were not able to contribute to PFAS removal.

This changes with our multilayer PFAS filter media. Its self‑supported, pleatable structure allows it to be used as a PFAS‑active pre‑filter, reducing contaminant load before water reaches downstream adsorption stages.

System‑Level Benefits of PFAS Pre‑Filtration

Using the PFAS Filter Media as a pre‑filter delivers clear advantages at the system level:

  • Protection of downstream carbon and ion‑exchange resins, extending service life
  • Reduced carbon and resin consumption, lowering operating costs
  • Higher PFAS capacity through improved carbon utilization
  • Defined, self‑supported pleated designs without additional support
  • Greater design flexibility for compact and modular filtration systems

By lowering PFAS levels upstream, the media allows final treatment stages to operate more efficiently and reliably over time.

Enabling Smarter, More Efficient PFAS Filtration Systems

With this PFAS filter media a pleated PFAS‑active pre‑filters is possible, combining high surface area, mechanical stability, and targeted PFAS capture. This represents a significant shift from rigid, single‑function PFAS treatments toward engineered, system‑optimized solutions.

As regulatory pressure increases and system efficiency becomes more critical, PFAS pre‑filtration will play an increasingly important role — not only in reducing PFAS, but in protecting investment‑intensive downstream treatment technologies.
